Workerbee Creative

Baltimore agency, Workerbee Creative, is a one man creative machine producing film, illustration, design and, of course, websites.  Drury Bynum, the man behind Workerbee, used to struggle to keep up with clients' web needs until he found LightCMS.

Me:  How does LightCMS help your agency better meet its clients' needs?

Drury: I am the sole owner and employee of my company, WorkerBee Creative. My focus is on creativity and design, so I've always given technical issues a lower priority. With all the Web 2.0 capabilities (forms, blogs, databases, content management, etc.) becoming common and expected, even in the smallest sites, I could hardly keep up. My experience at hiring out programmers was less than satisfactory, and the learning curve too steep for me to learn one or more programming languages. When I discovered LightCMS, it was the perfect answer, allowing me to focus almost exclusively on design and let the experts handle the complex programming.

Me:  What are the biggest selling points of LightCMS in your opinion?

Drury:  The easy to use Content Management System is the best feature. I have clients who used Adobe Contribute, but found LightCMS much easier and more powerful. Giving the client control over their own content is empowering and saves them money. For my own site, I find the process of updating and making changes even faster than if I were doing it via straight HTML.

The other feature that saves me countless hours of labor and frustration is HTML Express. I love being able to just focus on design, which is what I am best at, then let the folks at LightCMS slice up and code my PSDs. It's fast and it works perfectly and is an easy expense to pass on to the client.

Another thing that makes LightCMS unbeatable is their customer support. Being a typical creative-type, I am often stumped by the simplest technical challenges. Whenever I encounter a roadblock, or if I overlook something in the extensive help section, the tech support team is always there to guide me through. They are courteous, thorough and respond quickly.

Me: Would you recommend LightCMS to other agencies and if so, what would you say to another agency that was considering using LightCMS?

Drury:  LightCMS can save you considerable amounts of production time, letting you take on more jobs on the front end. On the back end, the branded (your brand) Help section and Content Management System shifts control to the client. When clients discover how easy it is, they are delighted that they are now in the driver's seat for their website, making changes, updates and additions effortlessly. This all but eliminates the cumbersome and time-consuming problem of editing the site for the client, which is difficult to track and bill and puts the client at the mercy of your schedule.

Me:  Tell us about your business, its goals ... etc.

Drury: My company is about creativity. I produce illustrations, direct videos and design websites. In order for creativity to remain the thrust of my business, it is crucial that technical bottlenecks do not occur.

Anything I can do to streamline and/or automate processes is a money maker for me. Before LightCMS, web design was my smallest revenue producer, for the very reason that there were so many technical variables. With LightCMS, all those variables are taken care of and the process of building out a site takes a fraction of the time and effort. In addition, I can now offer services, such as dynamic calendars and blogs, that I never would have been able to produce before, allowing me to charge premium prices.
